Alt Social Media

THE FEDIVERSE

Great in principle, kinda shitty in practice a lot of the time. Alternatives to the normal stuff. Well, here’s my dirty guide:

Lemmy replaces reddit and it’s kind of anemic but we’ll see if it gets longer legs. Has a horrible tankie problem.

Mastodon replaces twitter. Has a less horrible tankie problem.

Bluesky also replaces twitter, and it’s a real shit souffle. Has a tankie problem, but a way worse furry problem. I went on, looked at the “dogs” tag hoping to see some people’s adorable pets, and was absolutely bombarded eyeballs deep by NSFL furry porn. They tagged it “dogs” and all kinds of shit, but NEVER as NSFW, which I had a filter on for. It was at least 80% furry stuff, 80% of which was porn that I really didn’t wanna see. So when Bluesky banned smut, I laughed pretty hard while they all threw wall-eyed tantrums about how their rights were being trampled and they’re the ones who built bluesky’s userbase, bla bla bla… seems to me they were driving us away. Most instances on the fediverse don’t communicate with it, or Meta’s whatever it’s called twitter fedi clone.

Spacehey isn’t federated, it’s just a solid MySpace clone. Wish I had all my friends on that one.

There’s peertube, a federated YT replacement, which is neat but sparse.
